Try typing “dental clinic near me” into Google. The first thing you see isn’t websites; it’s a map with three clinics, their ratings, numbers and photos. This area is called the “local pack,” and most patients choose from it without scrolling to the results below.
What decides who appears there is the Google Business Profile. It’s free, but most clinics set it up once and forget it.
Why does the Google profile matter so much for clinics?
Because choosing a clinic is usually a local decision. Patients want somewhere close to home or work, and they want to be sure it’s trustworthy before they call. The Google profile gives them both on one screen: the location on the map, reviews, photos, and buttons to call and get directions. Many patients decide from the Google profile before they ever see your website or account.
Steps to set up the profile properly
Choose the category precisely
The primary category is one of the most important factors in your visibility. “Dermatology clinic” is more precise than “medical clinic,” and “cosmetic dentist” more precise than “clinic.” You can add secondary categories for other services, but keep the primary one for your main specialty.
Use your real name, no keyword stuffing
Write the clinic’s name exactly as it appears on your sign. Adding words like “best cosmetic clinic Riyadh” to the name breaks Google’s policies and can get your profile suspended.
Complete every field
Opening hours including Ramadan and holidays, a number that actually answers, your website link, a booking or WhatsApp link, and a list of services with a short description of each. A complete profile shows up more, and patients find answers without having to call.
Real photos from the clinic
The outside entrance so patients recognize the place, reception, exam rooms and the team. Real photos build far more trust than stock images, and updating them regularly signals the profile is active.
Reviews: the strongest factor in the profile
Patients read reviews before anything else, and Google takes them into account in rankings. Make asking for a review part of the clinic’s routine: after a successful visit, send the patient the direct review link on WhatsApp with a short, friendly message.
And reply to every review. Replying to positive ones shows you care, and a calm, professional reply to a negative one reassures readers more than the review itself. Note: never mention details of the patient’s case in your reply, even if they did.
Avoid buying reviews or writing them from fake accounts. Google detects and removes them, and may penalize the whole profile.
Posts and questions
The Google profile lets you publish short posts: an offer, a new service, or a tip. One post a week is enough to keep the profile looking active. There’s also a Q&A section where you can add the questions you hear most, with their answers.
Common mistakes
The most common mistakes we see: a personal mobile number that doesn’t answer, outdated hours, more than one profile for the same clinic, or an address written differently from the website and social accounts. Each of these weakens your visibility or sends patients elsewhere.
FAQ
Should every doctor in a medical complex have their own profile?
Google allows separate profiles for practitioners in some cases, but make sure they don’t compete with the complex’s own profile. It’s best to review this decision with a specialist.
How long until the profile shows up?
After the profile is verified, improvements usually start to show within weeks, especially as reviews grow.
